Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until well combined.
Baking
  1. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  2. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass, and top with chocolate chips or colorful sprinkles if desired.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges turn golden brown.
