Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- In a large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, fully incorporating each before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract and applesauce.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Gently fold in the chopped apples and nuts, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
Baking
- Bake for 50-65 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
