Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 6-inch round cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.
- In another bowl, mix buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until combined.
- Slowly combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, filling it about 2/3 full to allow room for rising.
Baking
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
- Once cool, frost the cake with vanilla bean buttercream and decorate with Spiderman-themed decorations to your liking.
Notes
Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Refrigerate for up to a week or freeze individual slices wrapped tightly for up to three months. Decorate boldly with additional toppings for extra flair.
