Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk or buttermilk substitute
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
For the Frosting
  • 1 batch Vanilla bean buttercream frosting For frosting the cake

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 6-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.
  3. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until combined.
  4. Slowly combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, filling it about 2/3 full to allow room for rising.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the cake cool completely in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. Once cool, frost the cake with vanilla bean buttercream and decorate with Spiderman-themed decorations to your liking.

Notes

Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Refrigerate for up to a week or freeze individual slices wrapped tightly for up to three months. Decorate boldly with additional toppings for extra flair.
