Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • as needed red food coloring Use gel for best results.
  • as needed blue food coloring Use gel for best results.
For the Frosting and Decoration
  • 2 cups buttercream frosting
  • as needed edible black gel icing For decoration.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and milk.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture until fully combined.
  6. Split the batter into two bowls and tint one bowl with red food coloring and the other with blue.
Baking
  1. Pour the red batter into one prepared pan and the blue batter into the other.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Assembly
  1. Once the cakes are completely cool, layer them with buttercream frosting in between and cover the top and sides of the cake.
  2. Use the edible black gel icing to draw Spiderman’s web and features on the cake.

Notes

Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to a month.
