Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and milk.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture until fully combined.
- Split the batter into two bowls and tint one bowl with red food coloring and the other with blue.
Baking
- Pour the red batter into one prepared pan and the blue batter into the other.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Assembly
- Once the cakes are completely cool, layer them with buttercream frosting in between and cover the top and sides of the cake.
- Use the edible black gel icing to draw Spiderman’s web and features on the cake.
Notes
Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to a month.
