Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature
  • 1 cup milk At room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs At room temperature
  • red and blue food coloring Use gel coloring for best results
Frosting and Decorations
  • buttercream frosting (store-bought or homemade) Red and blue for decoration
  • Spider-Man edible decorations or icing To add a superhero touch

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 13x18 inch baking sheet.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract and milk until well combined.
Mixing Dry Ingredients
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined; do not overmix.
Adding Color
  1. Divide the batter into two bowls. Add red food coloring to one bowl and blue to the other, mixing well.
  2. Spoon alternating dollops of the red and blue batter into the prepared pan to create a marbled effect.
  3. Use a knife to gently swirl the colors together, being careful to maintain distinct colors.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before frosting.
Frosting
  1. Once cool, frost one half of the cake with red buttercream and the other half with blue buttercream.
  2. Top with Spider-Man decorations or icing.

Notes

Serve at room temperature for the best flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to a week.
