Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Stir in the sourdough starter and salt. Gradually add flour, a little at a time, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover and let rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden and it sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let cool before slicing.
Notes
Serve warm with butter or olive oil. Avoid plastic bags for storage. Freeze for longer storage options.
