Ingredients
  

Brownie Batter
  • 1 cup sourdough starter Make sure it's active and bubbly.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust sweetness as desired.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Let it cool slightly before mixing.
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour blend.
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder Unsweetened preferred.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder Leavening agent.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional) For extra chocolate flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sourdough starter, sugar, and melted butter until well combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. If using, fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  2. Let cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Pairs well with vanilla ice cream or powdered sugar. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. Brownies freeze well for up to three months.
