Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, sugar, softened butter, and almond extract until smooth.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into strips and twist them into spirals.
- Place the twists on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the twists, then sprinkle almond slivers on top.
Baking
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve warm for the best flavor. They pair well with coffee or tea and can be enhanced with sweet dipping sauces like chocolate or berry compote. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
