  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure your butter is softened for better mixing.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar Can be substituted with lemon juice or white vinegar.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for rolling) Increase for extra flavor if desired.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  4. Mix in the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt until just blended.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the 3 tablespoons of sugar with the cinnamon.
  6. Roll dough into balls about 1 inch in diameter, then roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  7. Place the dough balls on greased baking sheets, flattening them slightly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  2. Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

To keep your snickerdoodles fresh, place them in an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, consider freezing them. Use a cookie scoop for evenly sized dough balls.
