Ingredients
  

Marinade
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons shawarma spice blend
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 juice of 1 lemon
Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 sliced onion
For Serving
  • pita bread or lettuce wraps For a lighter option, use lettuce wraps.
  • optional toppings (tomatoes, cucumber, tahini sauce)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine the olive oil, shawarma spice blend, salt, pepper, minced garlic, and lemon juice to create a marinade.
  2. Place the chicken in the slow cooker and pour the spice mixture over it, ensuring the chicken is well coated.
  3. Add the sliced onion on top of the chicken.
Cooking
  1. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
Serving
  1. Once done, shred the chicken with two forks and mix it well with the juices.
  2. Serve in pita bread or on lettuce wraps with desired toppings.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chicken overnight in the spice mixture. You can adjust the spice level by adding more or less shawarma spice blend according to your taste. Sliced bell peppers or carrots can be added for more flavor and nutrition.
