Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup Use maple syrup for a vegan option.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Room temperature is best.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or nuts Optional for extra texture.

Method

Baking Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the honey (or maple syrup) and vanilla extract; mix well until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. If using chocolate chips or nuts, fold them in gently.
  6. Pour the batter into your prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the slice to cool in the dish for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice into squares or bars.

Notes

Store the cooled slices in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
