  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened Must be at room temperature.
  • 4 large eggs Must be at room temperature.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Decoration
  • Frosting of your choice Varieties include whipped cream, ganache, or cream cheese frosting.
  • Sprinkles or fruit For decorative purposes.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Gradually stir this mixture into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven.
  2. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Decoration
  1. Once the cake is completely cool, frost with your choice of frosting and decorate with sprinkles or fruit.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
