Main Ingredients
  • 1 can Cooking Spray Prevents sticking during baking.
  • 4 cans (16-ounce each) Canned Baked Beans Use original flavor for best results.
  • 6 slices Bacon Diced; can substitute with turkey bacon for a healthier option.
  • 1 small Onion Finely chopped; shallots can be used as an alternative.
  • 1/4 cup Ketchup Barbecue sauce can work as a substitute for extra flavor.
  • 2-3 tablespoons Light Brown Sugar Maple syrup makes for a tasty alternative.
  • 2 tablespoons Spicy Brown Mustard Use yellow mustard if you prefer a milder taste.
  • 2 tablespoons Molasses Honey can be an excellent substitute for sweetness.
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce Soy sauce can be a great alternative for depth of flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar Optional; lemon juice can provide a refreshing touch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly spray a baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the diced bacon until it’s crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet with the bacon and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked bacon and onion with the canned baked beans, ketchup, light brown sugar, spicy brown mustard, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Stir well to mix all the ingredients.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the beans are bubbling and slightly caramelized on top.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
