  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature Ensure it is at room temperature for smoother mixing.
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature Let the eggs sit at room temperature.
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring Use a high-quality gel for vibrant color.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In a separate large bowl, mix together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined and smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then gently remove them from the pans and cool completely on wire racks.
Frosting & Serving
  1. Frost with cream cheese frosting and serve.

Notes

Serve slightly chilled and garnish with fresh berries or cocoa powder. For storage, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
