Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 standard packet)
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (105°F to 110°F) Water temperature is crucial for activating the yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting) Use more or less depending on dough consistency.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For greasing and adding flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Optional for extra flavor.

Method

Making the Dough
  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently and let sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add olive oil and salt, then approximately 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. If using garlic powder, add it now.
  3. Stir until smooth, then gradually add remaining flour half a cup at a time until dough pulls away from sides and forms a slightly sticky ball.
  4. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead by hand for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Grease a large bowl with olive oil, place the dough ball inside, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 60 minutes until doubled in size.
Baking the Pizza
  1. Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Punch down risen dough to release air. Divide into two portions.
  2. Roll each portion into a 12-inch circle on parchment paper or greased baking sheet. Add sauce and toppings.
  3. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbly.

Notes

For a chewier crust, replace all-purpose flour with bread flour. Ensure to preheat oven thoroughly for a crispy bottom. Let dough rest for 15 minutes before rolling if it shrinks back.
