Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- If you would like to create a colorful cake, separate the batter into different bowls and add your food coloring of choice. Swirl the colors for a beautiful effect.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
Baking
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the center.
- Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting and Decoration
- Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer with your frosting choice.
- Place the second layer on top, then frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Decorate with sprinkles or edible glitter for a festive look!
Notes
Serve with vanilla ice cream or fresh fruit like strawberries or raspberries. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
