Ingredients
  

Meat and Vegetables
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 6 medium Russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced Slice to 1/8-inch thickness
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing
Seasonings
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional) For added heat
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
Cheese and Garnish
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley For garnish
  • Non-stick cooking spray or butter For greasing the baking dish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onion until translucent. Add garlic, then the ground beef. Cook until browned and drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, crushed red pepper flakes, and beef broth. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Slice potatoes to 1/8-inch thickness. Rinse under cold water and pat dry.
Layering and Baking
  1. Layer potatoes in the dish, then spoon over some beef mixture, followed by cheese. Repeat layers, finishing with cheese on top.
  2. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  3. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley.

Notes

For a lighter option, use ground turkey or lean beef instead of ground beef. You can also experiment with different types of cheese, such as gouda or pepper jack, for varied flavors.
