Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onion until translucent. Add garlic, then the ground beef. Cook until browned and drain excess fat.
- Stir in tomato paste, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, crushed red pepper flakes, and beef broth. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Slice potatoes to 1/8-inch thickness. Rinse under cold water and pat dry.
Layering and Baking
- Layer potatoes in the dish, then spoon over some beef mixture, followed by cheese. Repeat layers, finishing with cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley.
Notes
For a lighter option, use ground turkey or lean beef instead of ground beef. You can also experiment with different types of cheese, such as gouda or pepper jack, for varied flavors.
