- In a large skillet, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper.
- Once the beef is cooked through, lower the heat and place a slice of provolone cheese on top of the beef mixture. Cover the skillet to help melt the cheese.
- Cut the hoagie rolls open and toast them if desired.
- Fill each hoagie roll with the beef and onion mixture.
- Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Philly cheesesteaks!
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To keep hoagie rolls from getting soggy, store the beef mixture separately from the rolls. Use a non-stick skillet for easier cooking and consider adding extra seasonings for flavor.
