Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk.
- If using, add food coloring until the desired color is achieved.
Baking
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
Decorating
- Once cooled, frost the cakes with your choice of frosting and decorate with sprinkles or other toppings as desired.
- Serve and enjoy with friends!
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to a week. Wrap tightly for freezing and it lasts about 3 months.
