  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature
  • 1 cup milk Room temperature is best
  • 3.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs Room temperature
  • Food coloring (optional) For desired color
Frosting and Toppings
  • Frosting of choice (e.g., cream cheese or buttercream)
  • Sprinkles or decorative toppings (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk.
  5. If using, add food coloring until the desired color is achieved.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
Decorating
  1. Once cooled, frost the cakes with your choice of frosting and decorate with sprinkles or other toppings as desired.
  2. Serve and enjoy with friends!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to a week. Wrap tightly for freezing and it lasts about 3 months.
