Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Should be at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Adjust for darker flavor
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with almond or gluten-free flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional for added chocolatey flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat.
  3. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  4. Beat in cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Spread the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.
  2. Do not over-cook; the brownies should be set at the edges and slightly underdone in the center.
  3. Allow to cool before cutting into squares and enjoy!

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Can freeze for up to 3 months.
