Preparation
- In a bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture on one side of four slices of bread, top with strawberries and strawberry jam, and then form sandwiches by placing the other slice of bread on top.
Batter and Frying
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, milk, egg, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, and salt until smooth.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each sandwich into the batter and fry for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Drain excess oil on paper towels, drizzle with sweetened condensed milk if desired, and serve warm with fresh strawberries.
Notes
Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet or microwave but note that they won't be as crispy.
