  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • 4 large eggs Room temperature.
  • 1 cup milk Room temperature.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract Can be substituted with more vanilla extract.
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Add the milk, vanilla extract, almond extract, baking powder, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the flour, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing.
Baking
  1. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Decorating
  1. Once cooled, decorate with your chosen festive ingredients.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for a week. For longer storage, freeze wrapped in plastic for up to 3 months.
