Ingredients

For the brownie batter
  • 1/2 cup oil or 1 stick (1/2 cup) melted butter
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 pcs eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour For a gluten-free option, replace with a gluten-free baking blend.
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional, for extra chocolate flavor.
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts Optional; can be replaced with pecans or omitted.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a small baking pan (8×8).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the oil or melted butter, cocoa powder, and sugar. Mix until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla, and mix until completely combined.
  4. Stir in the flour and salt, and mix until just combined—try not to over-mix!
  5. Spread the batter evenly in the greased or lined pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Notes

Allow brownies to cool completely before storing in an airtight container. They last 3-4 days at room temperature, or freeze for up to three months. For serving, they can be topped with ice cream, dusted with powdered sugar, or drizzled with caramel.
