Ingredients
  

For the cake
  • 1 package German chocolate cake mix Use your favorite brand
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
For the cream cheese filling
  • 8 ounces cream cheese Make sure it is at room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
For the toppings
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans Can substitute with walnuts or almonds if desired

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Mix until well combined.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Pour this mixture over the batter in the baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle coconut and pecans on top of the cream cheese mixture.
  6. Pour the remaining batter over the top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Let cool before serving.

Notes

Earthquake Cake is best served slightly warm or at room temperature. Pair it with whipped cream or ice cream for an extra treat. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
