  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water Soda water can be used as a substitute.
  • to taste Oil for frying Use oil with a high smoke point like canola or peanut oil.

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  2. Gradually add cold sparkling water to the dry ingredients, whisking until a smooth batter forms.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Dip each onion ring in the batter, letting the excess drip off.
  3. Carefully place the battered onion rings in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  4. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
