Ingredients
  

Pasta and Cheese
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni Cooked according to package instructions
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Sauce Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons butter Melted for the sauce
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour For thickening the sauce
  • 2 cups milk Whole milk recommended
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper To enhance flavor
Topping
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs Combined with melted butter for topping

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
Sauce Preparation
  1. Gradually add milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Add mustard powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Continue to cook until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the cheeses until melted.
Combine and Bake
  1. Combine the pasta and cheese sauce in a baking dish.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix panko crumbs with a little melted butter. Sprinkle over the mac and cheese.
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and crispy.
  4. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

For extra creaminess, mix in a little cream or sour cream to the cheese sauce. Feel free to add crumbled bacon or fresh herbs like parsley for added flavor.
