Ingredients

Breading Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Essential for creating a light, crispy coating.
  • 1 large egg Helps the breadcrumbs adhere, adding richness.
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs Their larger size gives extra crunch.
Main Ingredient
  • 8 oz halloumi cheese The star ingredient providing savory flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by cutting the halloumi cheese into fries or sticks, about 1/2 inch wide.
  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with the beaten egg, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge each halloumi stick in flour, shaking off excess flour, then dip it into the egg, and finally coat it with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they stick.
Cooking
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. The oil should be hot enough that a breadcrumb sizzles when dropped in.
  2. Carefully add the breaded halloumi fries to the skillet, cooking in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Remove the fries from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  4. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

These halloumi fries are best served fresh and can be paired with spicy sriracha mayo, garlic aioli, or tzatziki sauce.
