Baking
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them onto ungreased baking pans.
- Flatten each ball lightly with a glass, and sprinkle colored sugar on top if desired.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven until the edges are lightly golden.
Royal Icing Preparation
- Beat the egg whites together with lemon juice in a bowl.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until the icing holds stiff peaks.
- Let the baked cookies cool completely, then decorate them with the royal icing as desired.
Notes
Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. For longer storage, freeze without icing for up to three months.
