Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use room temperature for smoother batter.
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs Use room temperature for smoother batter.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract Optional; can double vanilla extract if needed.
Mix-ins
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Can substitute with dark or white chocolate chips.
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional; consider walnuts or pecans.
  • Sprinkles for decoration Optional; for festive presentation.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and almond extract.
  5. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture until combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  7. Drop the dough by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets and decorate with sprinkles.
Baking
  1. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes in the preheated oven until golden.
  2. Cool on wire racks.

Notes

To keep cookies fresh, store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week, or freeze for up to three months. For soft, chewy cookies, avoid overmixing. For crispier cookies, extend baking time slightly.
