Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 1 baguette French baguette or crackers Choose either baguette slices or sturdy crackers.
For the Filling
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Use a generous layer on each base.
  • 4 oz Smoked salmon or prosciutto Choose your favorite topping.
  • 1 Fresh herbs (dill or chives) A mix of both works well.
  • 1 cup Cherry tomatoes Sliced for topping.
For Garnishing
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil For brushing on the baguette.
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning.
  • optional Capers, pickles, etc. For additional flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) if using baguette slices.
  2. Slice the baguette into thin rounds and arrange them on a baking sheet.
  3. Brush each slice with olive oil and bake for about 5-7 minutes until golden and slightly crisp.
  4. Let the baguette cool slightly before topping.
Assembly
  1. Spread a generous layer of cream cheese on each slice or cracker.
  2. Place a piece of smoked salmon or prosciutto on top of the cream cheese.
  3. Add slices of fresh cherry tomatoes and a sprinkle of your choice of fresh herbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. If desired, add any additional toppings like capers or pickles for an extra burst of flavor.
  5. Serve immediately for the best texture, or store them in the fridge until ready to enjoy.

Notes

For an extra zing, mix some lemon zest or horseradish into the cream cheese. Aim for 3-4 canapés per person.
