  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature Ensure butter is at room temperature for proper creaming
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract Adds flavor
  • 2 large eggs
Chocolate Chips
  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream the room-temperature butter and both sugars on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Add the salt, vanilla extract, and eggs; beat until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  7. Drop tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake until the cookies are golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
  2. Let the cookies cool on the sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature ingredients. Chill the dough for thicker cookies and avoid overmixing after adding flour.
