Preparation
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the milk and beaten egg, along with the yeast mixture. Stir until it forms a soft dough.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into four equal pieces.
- Roll out each piece into a circle about ¼ inch thick. Spread a layer of Boursin cheese on top, then sprinkle some Parmesan, garlic, parsley, thyme, and Italian seasoning over the cheese.
- Stack the circles on top of each other and cut into sections to create star-shaped points. Arrange the pieces on the baking sheet, pointing outward like a star.
- Brush with melted butter and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let it cool slightly before serving. Pull apart and enjoy the cheesy goodness!
Notes
Store any leftover star bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. If you want to keep it longer, you can freeze it. Wrap the cooled star bread tightly in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil before placing it in the freezer.
