  • 1 packet Active Dry Yeast Alternatively, use 2 ¼ teaspoons.
  • 3 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour blend if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder Adds extra lift.
  • 12 tablespoons Cold Unsalted Butter Cut into pats.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Elevates flavor.
  • ½ cup Milk Almond milk makes a great dairy alternative.
  • 1 Large Egg Beaten.
Filling Ingredients
  • 5 oz Boursin Garlic and Herb Cheese Can substitute with Rondele or Aloutte if desired.
  • ¼ cup Shredded Parmesan Pecorino Romano can also work.
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped Fresh Parsley Can switch to dried herbs.
  • 1 tablespoon Butter Softened.
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Thyme Can use dried thyme.
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Butter For basting.
  • 1-2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • ½ teaspoon Italian Seasoning Can substitute with your favorite dried mix.
  • ½ teaspoon Parsley Fresh is better.
  • ¼ teaspoon Basil Use fresh for the best flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the milk and beaten egg, along with the yeast mixture. Stir until it forms a soft dough.
  5. On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into four equal pieces.
  3. Roll out each piece into a circle about ¼ inch thick. Spread a layer of Boursin cheese on top, then sprinkle some Parmesan, garlic, parsley, thyme, and Italian seasoning over the cheese.
  4. Stack the circles on top of each other and cut into sections to create star-shaped points. Arrange the pieces on the baking sheet, pointing outward like a star.
  5. Brush with melted butter and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Let it cool slightly before serving. Pull apart and enjoy the cheesy goodness!

Notes

Store any leftover star bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. If you want to keep it longer, you can freeze it. Wrap the cooled star bread tightly in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil before placing it in the freezer.
