  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup butter, cold and cubed Keep cold for flaky texture.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (e.g., cheddar)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 each egg, for brushing (optional) Optional for glossy finish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheese.
  5. Add milk gradually and mix until a dough forms.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  2. Roll the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut into rounds.
  3. Place the scones on a baking sheet and brush the tops with beaten egg if desired.
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
  5. Serve warm.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat before serving.
