Preparation
- Place a medium skillet over medium heat and melt the butter until bubbling slightly.
- Add the diced apples and stir to coat in the melted butter.
- Sprinkle brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg over the apples; stir frequently to ensure the sugar dissolves.
- Sauté apples for 6-8 minutes until tender.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and let it cool for 5 minutes.
- Arrange phyllo shells on a tray and warm in a 350°F oven if desired.
- Fill each shell with the apple mixture, pressing down gently.
- Warm the caramel in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
- Drizzle caramel sauce over each filled cup.
- Sprinkle with nuts and sea salt if desired.
- Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
For a more indulgent treat, serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but fresh is best.
