Dough Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups warm water Ensure it's warm, not hot.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast About 2 1/4 teaspoons.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Can substitute with honey or agave syrup.
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Bread flour can also be used for a chewier texture.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Adds richness to the dough.
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt For flavor.
  • 1/4 cup baking soda Used in the boiling process.
  • 1 large egg, beaten For brushing before baking.
  • Coarse to taste sea salt For sprinkling on top.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in flour, melted butter, and sea salt until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes.
  3. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
  3. Roll dough into bite-sized pieces and boil each for about 30 seconds.
  4. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on the baking sheet.
  5. Brush each pretzel bite with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for best results.
