Cake Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened for batter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp salt
Buttercream Ingredients
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened for buttercream
  • 2-3 tbsp milk for buttercream
  • to taste Food coloring optional

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together 1/2 cup butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and give them a gentle shake to settle the batter.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Cool for 10 minutes in the pans, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Buttercream Preparation
  1. Beat together 1/2 cup softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  2. Add milk until you reach the desired consistency and mix in food coloring if desired.
Assembly
  1. Once the cakes are cool, frost the tops with buttercream, stacking one cake on top of the other.
  2. Decorate as desired with sprinkles, fruits, or chocolate shavings.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature ingredients. Don’t rush the cooling process.
