Ingredients
  

Dry ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Spoon and level for measuring.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Ensure it is fresh for best rising.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet ingredients
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Keep cold for best texture.
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk Make a substitute with milk and vinegar if needed.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times.
  6. Roll or pat the dough to about 1 inch thick.
  7. Cut biscuits using a biscuit cutter and place them on a baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use cold ingredients and do not overmix. Store in an airtight container for 2-3 days or freeze for longer storage.
