Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Baking
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Assembly
- Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer with buttercream frosting and place the second layer on top.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake generously.
- Decorate with sprinkles and food coloring if desired.
- Slice and serve to excited guests!
Notes
To keep fresh, cover the cake with plastic wrap or store in an airtight container. Enjoy with ice cream, milk, or coffee.
