Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened Let butter soften at room temperature.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs Add one at a time for better incorporation.
For the Frosting and Decoration
  • Buttercream frosting
  • Sprinkles
  • Food coloring (optional) Use for vibrant color variations.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Assembly
  1. Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer with buttercream frosting and place the second layer on top.
  2. Frost the top and sides of the cake generously.
  3. Decorate with sprinkles and food coloring if desired.
  4. Slice and serve to excited guests!

To keep fresh, cover the cake with plastic wrap or store in an airtight container. Enjoy with ice cream, milk, or coffee.
