Ingredients
  

Pasta and Base
  • 2 cups macaroni Use elbow macaroni or any pasta shape of your choice.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Unsalted preferably.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour For thickening the cheese sauce.
  • 2 cups milk Whole milk is recommended for creaminess.
Cheese and Seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Freshly shredded cheese from a block is best.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika Optional for added flavor.
Topping
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Optional, for a crispy topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook macaroni according to package instructions; drain.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour, cooking for about 1 minute.
  4. Gradually add milk, whisking until smooth.
  5. Stir in cheese, salt, pepper, and paprika until melted and creamy.
  6. Combine the cheese sauce with the macaroni and stir well.
  7. Pour into a baking dish. If desired, top with breadcrumbs.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  2. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve as a main dish or side. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
